FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message
The Secret Sauce

Not a week goes by that a speaker or guest does not comment on what is so special about Roswell Rotary.

Words such as “I’ve heard about your club, now I get it”, or “wow, you guys really have fun!”

We have known the answer for years. Fellowship. Friends are the family you choose. I am so grateful we choose Roswell Rotary!

“Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together." Woodrow T. Wilson

This Week's Speakers
Roswell Police and Fire Chiefs

James Conroy is currently the Chief of Police for the City of Roswell. He was selected for this position following a nationwide search and began serving the City of Roswell on July 29, 2019.

Before joining the Roswell Police Department, Chief Conroy grew up in DeKalb County, and served the DeKalb County Police Department retiring in 2019 with 30 years of service. He worked his way through all ranks and divisions and served as the DeKalb County Chief of Police for the last five and one half years. Under his leadership, DeKalb County experienced a significant reduction in overall crime and he led efforts to increase public trust and overall transparency of the department by implementing body worn cameras and enhancing public access to crime data.

Chief Conroy is happily married for over 16 years to his wife Ginger. They have two girls, Reagan age 15 and Reese age 13. They keep him very busy with their competitive cheerleading and travelling.

Tony Papoutsis started in the fire service on July 2, 1977 in Fayetteville PA. Tony was hired by the Roswell Fire Department in 1989 as a part time firefighter and became a full time Assistant Fire Marshal/Arson Investigator in 1990. He was promoted to Training Captain in 1997 and then Deputy Fire Chief in 2005. He is currently the Interim Fire Chief until the arrival of Chief Joe Pennino on June 1st. Tony holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Public Administration.

Tony has been married to his wife Kelly for 26 years and has a 23 year old son Zach (who is a Cobb County Firefighter) and a 19 year old son Alex who is studying to be a medical doctor at the University of South Carolina.

70th Anniversary Celebrations

The Rotary Club of Roswell sponsored by the Rotary Club of Atlanta was presented its Charter April 18th, 1951 at the Banquet Hall at the High School of Alpharetta with 84 Rotarians and guests present.

For the past 70 years we have played an active role in the city of Roswell as well as internationally.

Our April 22nd weekly meeting will be an Anniversary Party reflecting on the past 70 years.  In traditional Roswell style, margaritas will be served by a parrot!

Saturday, May 22nd we are hosting a Holiday/Anniversary celebration at the home of Jere & Claudia Wood. Be certain to save the date.

IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE!

Free Pops for Teachers
King of Pops

Show your support  for over 400 Title 1 school teachers in the Roswell Rotary jurisdiction by providing King of Pops during teacher appreciation week in May.

King of Pops calls these donations an Unexpected Moment of Happiness (UMOH). Our goal is to raise $1400 as we have 401 teachers at four (4) Title 1 schools (Mimosa Elementary, Vickery Mill Elementary, Hembree Springs Elementary and Elkins Point Middle  in Roswell, but but wouldn't it be great if we could support more of our teachers?

For more information or to donate click  free pops for teachers.   Contact Ken Carter at 404-386-3214 or carter@kingofpops.com for more details.
