FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message

Welcome Back Roswell Rotary!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and is well rested, eager to get back to doing what we do best, give back to the community and have a blast doing it!

We had a great turnout of singers for our "Caroling on Canton Street" where we strolled through some of the local establishments and "treated" the patrons to some good ole fashion Christmas Carols. We even visited Betty Price's mother, singing songs from outside her window as she was in lock down in her assisted care faculty. Thank you Michael Agurkis for having us at your office for the pre game refreshments.

Join us this week as we get back into action with a pub crawl starting at Gate City on Wednesday! Then on Thursday our very own Dave McCleary will share a great story of how our police department saved a local young lady from human trafficking.

Roswell Rotary, you truly are the light of this community.

End Human Trafficking Update 1-6-22
Past President Dave McCleary will update us on the latest efforts and actions in the End Human Trafficking area.

Startling Facts about Human Trafficking

"Human trafficking is the 2nd largest business in the world, second only to illicit drugs. Often the two overlap."

"Traffickers may be strangers, teachers and even family members"

The Power of One and the Power of Rotary

Hear past president Dave McCleary's update on what is happening with the effort to combat human slavery. If ever there was an example of the Power of ONE, it is Dave. After learning that human trafficking is not just a third world issue but happens daily right here in our hometown community, Dave was compelled to act. Knowing the influence and vastness of Rotary, which embraces 34,000 clubs and 1.2 million members worldwide, collectively the many become one force. Dave spent countless hours attending meetings, contacting and working with non-profit groups already serving different aspects of this multi-faceted issue to learn and determine the best way Rotary could help to achieve the goal of stopping human trafficking/modern day slavery).

The Mission

Dave can tell you stories of so many lives that have been changed as a result of this effort....young girls rescued from traffickers,  mothers and fathers getting their daughters back, coordinated efforts with truck stops and hotels and airlines and bars to post signage to increase awareness and as an emergency rescue for victims. The spark of his commitment to this cause has exploded into huge awareness and legislation and deliverance for so many victims. Please make sure you attend on Thursday, Jan. 6 to hear directly from Dave about current efforts and to find out how we as Rotarians can help!!! Don't miss this one!

If you can't be 'in person' for lunch

It's a smart idea, not a New Years resolution. Walk with a Doc

You don't need another resolution.  You only need the will to be happy  ;-)

You can be as upbeat as President Terry because he's got his health, and he's doing something that's good for his heart, his mind and his spirit.  He and Amy are regular walkers.

The "Walk with a Doc" program is a wonderful way to be like President Terry.  Learn something from one of our local doctors, then go for a walk in Roswell-area nature.  You'll have the opportunity to talk further with the doctor, and with new friends who are also walking.

It's an ideal way to start a weekend! While this link lists 100 research articles how walking is good for you, Rotary is making it fun. We’ve joined with the national “Walk with a Doc” program for a 2 mile and a 3 mile walk. In addition to the 100 reasons to walk, the 101st is to make room for Roswell Rotary’s fried chicken for lunch. And there are several bonuses to participating in this community event

       • The opportunity to get advice from our doctor while walking

       • Free parking

      • Earn credits for free gourmet coffee at Roswell’s Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee

Date: Sat, Jan 15, 8:30 – 10:00am.

Location:  Leta Thompson Park 1200 Woodstock Rd, Roswell, GA 30075 Meet at the gazebo / small parking lot; overflow parking is about 100 yards to the East.

Note: Our February walk will be Sat, Feb 5 at Gold Branch trail in E Cobb. 2 & 3 mi options, hilly w/ beautiful views of the river.  Nat'l Park parking fee or annual pass needed  And we'll celebrate Bob Marley's Feb 5 birthday.

Business networking Rotary-style continues Tue, Jan 18 6:30pm
Who Better to Network with than Rotarians?

Paul Harris formed Rotary in 1905 so that professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and conduct business together. Paul Harris was networking well before 1985 when telecommunications expert and consultant Bill Lewis is believed to be the first person to use the term “networking” to describe connecting people in order to build a business network.

While Rotary is about "Service Above Self," there is a growing place for networking in Rotary, particularly for those responsible for generating revenue.

This is an opportunity for you or someone on your staff, or someone you are interested in recruiting to Roswell Rotary. Last month's gathering again drew a crowd - with Rotarians from the Atlanta Metro, Dunwoody, Peachtree City, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Tucker clubs. While it had similarities to other networking events, you knew that attendees honored the integrity of the 4 Way Test. The next event returns to the Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant(*), 1224 Hammond Dr, Dunwoody, GA 30346(*), between the Perimeter Mall and the MARTA station.

Please plan to join us on Tue, Jan 18 from 6:30 - 8:00pm. For more information, please contact Hal Schlenger (email) | (770-335-0077), or Johnathan Clark of the Tucker Club (johnathanmclark@gmail.com | 404.512.6058)
