Service Opportunity
Special Olympics - November 11

by Rick Woods

As you all know, we do a lot of things that benefit our community. We give our time, our energy and our money to help so that people can live a life that’s less burdened than it would be if we did nothing. I find personal satisfaction in all that we do. One area of service though, is particularly pleasing for me: Special Olympics.

On Friday, November 11, from 9:30am to 12:30pm, Special Olympics is managing a Basketball Skills Clinic with Competition amongst the teams following. It is, by far, of all the things we do, the most rewarding service project for me. The reason, I think, is that feedback from the athletes is in real time; it’s immediate. You’ll see/hear all kinds of things: expressive body motions, facial expressions, laughing, grunting, joy, disappointment, frustration, and everything else. Although you probably won’t see it in a way that you’re used to, you’ll also notice that every Special Olympics athlete gives you a strong indication of appreciation. It is a very emotional experience. I hope you will join us

Whiskey Raffle Update

Rotarians and friends gathered last Thursday at Porter's Brew & Que for Thirsty Thursday and the first drawing in this year's Whiskey Raffle. The winning ticketholder won two whiskeys - one from Shortbarrel and one from the Distillery of Modern Art.  Clinton Dugan with Shortbarrel Bourbon attended the drawing and donated a second bottle which was won by another lucky ticketholder.

Our second drawing will take place November 17 - and features a bottle of Weller 12-year-old bourbon whiskey valued at $350. We need your help to meet our goal to sell 150 tickets at $20 each. You can buy your tickets now at our Whiskey Raffle website; talk it up to friends and family who love a good whiskey or appreciate that the funds raised will benefit our community.  [more]

Happy Holidays
Join Us December 2 at the Annual Holiday Luncheon ... and Don't Forget the Toys

Mark your calendar now for the Dunwoody Rotary Holiday Luncheon at the Dunwoody Country Club - December 2, 2022 - open to all Dunwoody Rotarians and a guest. To help us plan, please send your RSVP to: rcdsecr@gmail.com - Subject: Holiday Luncheon RSVP"

This luncheon is part of the 38-year tradition of the Rotary Club of Dunwoody - an opportunity to share the joy of the season with our Rotary family. It's also a long-standing tradition to include something meaningful for our community - in this case, our support for the Marines' Toys for Tots drive. Bring your unwrapped toys, games, dolls, stuffed animals, even bicycles to the holiday luncheon. If you have questions about how to support this drive, reach out to Jim Glass.
