Our Last Week at Le Meridien This Week ... Next Week We Move to AC Hotel/Bar Peri
Join us this Friday at Le Meridien for one last meeting there, then reset your navigation system for September 1 to the AC Hotel's Bar Peri on the top floor. It's not far at all from LeMeridien - set your navigation for AC Hotel by Marriott, Atlanta Perimeter, 40 Perimeter Center Place NE, Atlanta GA 30346. We met there for our first meeting in July and our Mardi Gras Thirsty Thursday earlier this year.

Susan and Bruce Keenan, Himalayan Children's Charities
Join us at LeMeridien this Friday to welcome Susan and Bruce Keenan and hear about the work they have been doing in Nepal. Part of their future work there is tied to a Global Grant from The Rotary Foundation that we are planning to help support. Note that this will be our last meeting at LeMeridien (see story above).
In 1999, after a trip trekking in Nepal, Bruce, and his wife Susan, began sponsoring the education of two orphaned sisters in Kathmandu. Soon they were sponsoring two more children, then four, then eight, and Himalayan Children’s Charities (HCC) was founded. Bruce believes that every child, regardless of the circumstances they were born into, deserves an education and the opportunity to live a fulfilled life, and HCC was established with that philosophy. HCC provides quality education, innovative mentorship and nurturing care to orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children in Nepal. With Bruce at the helm, over the last 22 years HCC has directly supported 540 children and helped over 10,000 through various outreach projects.

Ready, Set, Recruit
One More Week to Order Your Rotary Business Cards On Us
We are looking to you to promote our club and help us attract new members, new sponsors, new speakers, and new friends. And we're ready to help you do that by getting you personal Rotary business cards - as long as you order through Dave Burr (davidthomasburr@gmail.com) by August 31.
As part of the club's fall membership drive, we want to provide every member with personalized business cards that show your involvement with the club, display Rotary's logo, and point prospects to online sources for more information. You can share these cards whenever you dine at local restaurants, conduct business in the area, and interact with local community organizations, display the cards in your business, and hand out the cards when making your elevator speech to prospective members (we'll talk more about the elevator speech at an upcoming meeting). Save the Date to Serve
Keep a Long-Time Dunwoody Tradition Going: Sign Up for Our Sept. 21 USO Tour of Duty
You can enlist today for our upcoming day at the USO on September 21. You'll be upholding a long-time Dunwoody tradition. We need:
- Eight volunteers to help welcome and serve lunch to any active troops and veterans passing through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on September 21 from 10 am - 3 pm, and
- Any and all bakers who would like to contribute home cooked cookies and brownies to go with that lunch.
Cookies should be delivered to the E. 48th Street Market on 09/18 & 19th, 2023. All home baked cookies will be bagged on volunteer day and each bag will have a label that reads "Dear Soldier, Thank you for your service. Enjoy this small token of appreciation made especially for you with love and prayers." Rotary Club of Dunwoody

Whiskey Raffle Update
Put on Your Whiskey Thinking Cap ...
Here's the question to ponder: WHAT SPECIAL WHISKEY MIGHT BE THE SPECIAL ONE THAT HELPS THE CLUB RAISE $10,000 IN SUPPORT OF OUR CHARITABLE WORK FOR THIS YEAR - AS WE LAUNCH OUR THIRD ANNUAL WHISKEY RAFFLE NEXT MONTH. ALL WE NEED IS THE RIGHT BLEND OF WHISKEYS AND GENEROUS WHISKEY ENTHUSIASTS TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
How can you help? Right now, we're focused on the first part of the blend - fine in-demand whiskey donations. Visit your local liquor store TODAY and asking for a donation. After a few years of doing the raffle we've learned that the unusual or rare bottle generates more ticket sales. Some in-demand whiskeys include: Stag, Penelope, Parker's Whistle Pig and Blantons. Drawings will be held at each Thirsty Thursday in the months of October, November and December. So it is critical that we have our whiskeys lined up by the end of the month. Don't delay.

Rotary Youth Exchange
Gearing Up for the 2024-25 RYE Class
Know someone who might be interested in this year abroad high school experience? We are gearing up to identify outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students for the 2024-25 school year, and to identify potential sponsor clubs and families for inbound clubs. We're hoping to sponsor a student this year from Dunwoody High School - our first since the pandemic. We need your help in spreading the word about the opportunity to your neighbors and friends!
It all starts with an Information Session. Students who would like to learn more about the Rotary Youth Exchange scholarship program should attend an Information Session. Before submitting an application, students must participate in one of the Information Sessions together with at least one parent.
