Join us this Thursday, December 14, at Bar[n] in Dunwoody Village where the fellowship of Thirsty Thursday will join with the fun[d] raising of our Third Annual Whiskey Raffle. We'll be drawing for all six prizes this week. See the article that follows for more about how to buy tickets - and help your friends buy tickets. Festivities begin at 5:30 pm.
Tomorrow night - Thursday, November 14 - we'll end the suspense by pulling six tickets from the raffle bin and awarding six prizes. The drawing begins at 7pm at Bar[n] Booze [n] Bites in Dunwoody Village. Join us as early as 5:30 pm and stay for the raffle.
This week we feature the top prize - a bottle of Van Winkle Special Reserve 12yo and a private tasting for four people at ShortBarrel with a combined estimated value of $1,500!
Last chance! $25 tickets for sale at www.whiskey-raffle.com. Only about 50 of the 400 tickets remain to be sold.
And remember: No matter whose tickets are drawn, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody and the community we serve are the big winners! Thanks for your support.
A Message from Ranger Fred
With the help of Su Ellis, master gardener and awesome Force of Nature, we were able to secure a $1,000 City of Dunwoody budget commitment to purchase and plant 40 flowering perennials at Bounds Gardens. The week before last, Su, Tina Philpot, Rick Otness and Ranger Fred (me) planted 33 Echinacea Coneflowers and Asters at the SE tip of the island by the traffic light. Wednesday we will plant the remaining seven at the SW tip nearest to Ashford Dunwoody.
Su insists that we water these little guys at least every other day until the rains are reliably here. Going out there three times a week is not easy for a retiree who goes to the gym three times a week, walks two boisterous greyhounds twice daily, attends Rotary meetings, gathers for meals with our Supper Club three days a week and takes prodigious naps. Su suggested soliciting volunteers, hence the formation of the Bounds Gardens Bucket Brigade.
Here’s how it works, go to Signup Genius -https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4AA8A62DA6F8C25-53068895-bounds = and volunteer (one per) for a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday.
And just in case you're saying, "But Fred, what if I’ve never done anything with Bounds Gardens because you’re so annoying we’d rather listen to Rick Otness giving a three-hour lecture on logistical models powered with AI?" Not to worry, I won’t even be there (unless you invite me). All you have to do is:
Make sure you wear shoes that will not leave you
heartbroken if you get them wet, slimy or muddy.
Easy peasy. No more than five
minutes. If it takes you more than that, drop down and give me fifty.
Join us in a special Dunwoody tradition as we help with the annual Special Olympics Basketball Skills Clinic and Competition on Friday, December 6 at Peachtree Middle School, 4664 N Peachtree Rd., Dunwoody 30338. The workshop runs from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm - and you can sign up for an hour and a half shift or the full three-hour session.
Wondering what it's all about:
You are invited to join in a Dunwoody tradition ... the 41st Annual Holiday Luncheon on Friday, December 13 at the Dunwoody Country Club. Arrive 11-11:30am with the welcome to start at 11:30am. As always, we welcome your spouse or special guest. RSVP to Dave Burr (dave@mailcenteretc.com).
We plan for the Dresden Elementary School chorus to provide some beautiful entertainment (pictured here in their first performance for Dunwoody in 2003). And of course, we will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots! Please consider bringing a new, unwrapped toy to help spread some holiday joy this year to children and families in our community.
