SPEAKER THIS WEEK: ​John C Bleacher, MD

Dr. Bleacher is a pediatric general surgeon who has been in practice at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), Scottish Rite since 1996. He graduated from Wright State University School of Medicine in 1988. He completed his surgical training in adult general surgery at Pennsylvania State University Hershey Medical Center, then went on to train in pediatric general surgery at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He and his family relocated to Atlanta upon completion of his training. Dr. Bleacher was in private practice with Pediatric, Adolescent Surgical Associates, P.C. until 2014, when the practice was acquired by CHOA. He is currently employed by CHOA.

Dr. Bleacher holds several administrative and leadership positions. He is chief of pediatric general and thoracic surgery at Scottish Rite, practice director for his practice, trauma medical director for the trauma program, and surgical director of the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric intensive care unit. He also holds clinical adjunct appointments at Emory School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine.

On a state level, Dr. Bleacher was appointed by the Georgia Speaker of the House to be a commissioner on the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission in 2015. He is also Secretary/Treasurer of the Georgia Trauma Foundation. On a national level, he is vice chair of the Practice Committee for the American Pediatric Surgical Association and previously served on its Education Committee.

Dr. Bleacher has been married to Angela for 34 years. They have three adult children, Nina (30), John Patrick (28), and Cristina (21). When not at work, he enjoys traveling, cooking, reading and exercising.

New lights at Dunwoody High School


On Thursday January 10th the new lights at Dunwoody High School were turned on for the first time. On August 31, 2018 the Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund issued a check for $8,000 to the Dunwoody High School Community Association to support Phase II of their multi-year campaign "GAME ON." Phase II proceeds were used to upgrade the sports field, including outdoor lighting which now allows first-time greater access to the fields.
