President's Message
Adventure!

Life is an adventure! Some people are more adventurous than others! For me, most of my adventuring has been through reading books and watching videos and movies, but I have been lucky enough to travel to some wonderful places around the world and plan to see even more. If you are in the mood for high adventure, though, check out these great Ted Talks! Click Here. Or, just come to Roswell Rotary on Thursday! This week, we welcome back, Ben Mathes, a true adventurer and a Rotarian. Ben will update us on his work to end polio and share some of his adventures from around the world.

An adventure closer to home will be on display this week as well! J Prothero and several Roswell Rotarians are teaching construction and life skills after school to 5th graders--so you know that's an adventure! The ToolBox team will be displaying what the 5th graders built this Spring in their construction clubs. You will be amazed and inspired!

Join us for adventure this week!

President Becky

This Week's Speaker
Ben Mathes - Mission: Hope

Ben was also a regular on K-LOVE Christian Radio, reaching over 3 million listeners with a twice-daily feature about his mission adventures. He has written numerous books, including a series of audio books, DVD’s and paperback books under the title of “Lessons From The Forests.”

Rotary International awarded Ben with an Honorary Paul Harris Award in 1999 and an Honorary Membership in appreciation for his work fighting polio and river blindness. Hampden-Sydney College has also awarded Ben with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (L.D.H.) in May of 1999 and with the James Madison Award for “Extraordinary Humanitarian Service in Some of the World’s Most Distressed Areas” by The Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest in April 2007.

An avid sportsman, he hunts and fishes around the world. He enjoys music and is an often-published photographer. Rhodes College – B.A. Columbia Theological Seminary – M-Div. Washington College Academy – D.D. Hampden-Sydney College – L.D.H.

New Member Spotlight

Kathleen Carmical was born in Virginia to a Military family who relocated to Marietta when she was 9.

After Graduating from the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business she got her first job at Turner Sports and spent time in New York City and San Francisco. First licensed as a Realtor in 1999,Kathleen began working in commercial and residential real estate.

Kathleen lived in the Morningside and Inman Park neighborhoods of Atlanta for the better part of 20 years. When her son, Benjamin was born in 2013 she and her husband Chip knew a suburb was in their future, but wanted to find a community that had the feel of an Intown Atlanta neighborhood without the hassles of the city. She and her husband looked for two years before falling in love with Roswell and moving to Brookfield Country Club in 2017.

Kathleen is married to Chip Carmical and has two stepsons, Charlie, 25 & Hank, 21 and one son Benjamin, 6. She came to Rotary because her eldest stepson had a large group of international student friends in college who all came to the States to study through Rotary. At her first Roswell Rotary meeting, Kathleen saw Jeff Meyer speak and has since joined RPC with her family.

Kathleen is affiliated with Century 21 Connect Realty in Roswell Georgia

Her past community and church involvement include mission trips to Romania, Brazil & The Lighthouse Family Retreat in Florida. She is a former active member of the Buckhead Coalition, Young Bucks, Buckhead Church and Inman Park neighbors association. Her family is currently fostering for Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.

Kathleen is looking forward to getting involved with Rotary and serving the community of Roswell.

Get A Free Head Shot

Does your headshot look like this?

Now is your chance to get a new one at no cost to you. David Bourne and Michael Gould have offered their services to take new headshots for our members before and after our weekly meetings from May 16 through June 6.

Dress for success and plan to come a few minutes early or stay for a few minutes after our meeting to have them take your new headshot. These will get added to our club website and make their way into the 2019-20 club directory.

Advertise In The Directory

Club Directory

As the new Rotary year approaches, it is time to update our club directory before the next edition goes to print. Please make sure your personal information is up to date. You can update this yourself on our club website or stop by and see Darlene at one of our next meetings.

The directory is a great opportunity to advertise your business to our club membership. If you have run an ad in previous years, expect a call from Mickey Deaton asking you to run an ad again this year.

AD PRICING:

  • $250 - 1/3 Page (2.5"h x 3.375"w)
  • $500 - 2/3 Page (5.25"h x 3.375"w)
  • $750 - Full Page (8"h x 3.375"w)

Want More Exposure?

Get higher visibility by having your ad on the inside or back cover. Pricing for these limited and high traffic ad placements is simple, it is double the normal price listed above.

Thank you for advertising in the directory and doing business with fellow Rotarians!

Dates for Service Above Self (and a good bit of fun)

Opportunities for your participation:

6/05, Wed: Hump Day - C&S Chowder House

6/11, Tue: Rotary Means Business - North Fulton B2B networking for Rotarians, https://rotary6900.org/v2/page/484

6/27, Thu: Installation Party

9/09, Mon: 41st Annual Aubrey Greenway Golf Tournament

It's even more fun with your friends and that starts with inviting your friends to a meeting, service project or social event. Bringing a guest presents 2 opportunities for "service." First is the goodwill that comes from introducing a guest to members of our club, to our club projects AND hearing our speakers. The second is growing our Roswell Rotary family.
Please look for opportunities to share Rotary with your friends.
