NA Rotary joined forces with (lead club) Dunwoody, as well as Brookhaven, Buckhead, and Atlanta clubs providing the MLK GRSP Leadership weekend. Starting Friday noon at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta, students attended opening day of the Martin Luther Ing, Jr collection. Approximately 48 GRSP students participated in the weekend hosted in rotarian's homes from North Atlanta, Dunwoody, Buckhead and Brookhaven clubs.
The weekend was full of projects, seminars and activities, including Friday night at Slingshot where the students enjoyed bowling and electric cars as well as food and fellowship. Saturday found the students at Oglethorpe University partaking in a communications seminar based on the book Fierce Conversations. Also included in the weekend was a service project where students and rotarians worked together in a "Stop Hunger Now" event packing over 10,000 meals.
Saturday night host families and students came together at 3 different homes of Rotarians for dinner, with approximately 35 people attending each dinner. This was a great opportunity for everyone to share across cultural and international boundaries and build good will and better friendships.
Sunday, the Atlanta Roteract Club facilitated a "Shark Tank" like interactive activity, "Go Make A Difference" where students created and presented projects to help others. The "shark" judges were a group of Rotarians given the task of evaluating the projects for funding.
Total cost of the program was $15,000. effecting approximately 48 GRSP students. The figures shown in the statistics section are for North Atlanta Rotary alone.
