1st Annual Fishing Derby

In collaboration with the City of Roswell Rec Department we were able to successful host our first Annual Fishing Derby.  The whole event was spearheaded by Becky Nelson.  The project entailed using a pond at the Roswell Rec Center for the fishermen.  Roswell Rec Employee Craig Fuller was able to secure the bamboo fishing rods by harvesting them from the pond.  Jim Savage and Rich Austin prepared the poles so that the young fishermen could use them.  Each student was provided a rod, fishing line and bait to get started.  Any student that didn't have an adult with them were paired with a Roswell Rotarian.  The Interact students canvassed the fishing field awarding tickets to participants.  Each participant was given a tackle box that they could fill with awards from a table featuring stickers, fishing gear, etc.  Nourishment was included for the participants.  New Member, Priya Crumpton coordinated the sign up and pairing participants with guidance.  Many of the participants caught fish, turtles and were rewarded accordingly.  Kathy Igou headed up the public image committee.  Jim Savage was lead on the actual fishing and educating the participants on preparing their gear.
