Lang started his year with a distinction probably unique in all of Rotary history: He was the third generation of his family to serve a Rotary District as governor. His grandfather, John Sheffield, served in 1926-27, and his father, John W. Sheffield, served in 196162, and now Lang in 1975-76. Lang introduced a new idea in having a Rotary Information Conference for incoming club presidents. The meeting was held at Callaway Gardens, hosted by the Columbus Club. This was a big success with 52 out of 56 club presidents in attendance. The District Conference at Jekyll Island set a new attendance record with 1500 registrants.
