Dragon Boat Races Raise Money for Local Charities

This September, the Rotary Club of Peachtree City held the 11th annual Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon Boat racing is a great team building event that doesn’t require previous training or special skills. It’s a great way to get exercise and build friendships. District Governor Court Dowis and PDG Raymond Ray joined the fun, with Court acting as the honorary starter for the Special Olympics Race.

Thirty six teams competed in the event held on Lake McIntosh . Additionally 25 event sponsors and 21 vendors helped raise money to benefit four charity partners:

  • The Breast Cancer Survivors Network (BCSN): The mission of BCSN is to provide assistance, education and positive support services before, during and after diagnosis, treatment and recovery of breast cancer. www.thebreastcancersurvivorsnetwork.org
  • Bloom Our Youth (dba Bloom): Bloom provides safe shelter and physical, educational and emotional support to children and youth who have been the victims of abuse, neglect, or other tragic circumstances in order to strengthen them for the next phase of life. www.bloomouryouth.org
  • Midwest Food Bank (MFB): MFB’s mission is to gather large quantities of food and distribute to nonprofit organizations free-of-charge.
