The Rotary Club of Newnan recently completed its District Grant Project – Launch Pad Library Outdoor Literacy Exploration Area at Ruth Hill Elementary School. The Outdoor Literacy Exploration Area is designed to increase literacy, physical health, and social and emotional well-being through a process that engages the whole child. Most of the students are economically disadvantaged and have missed early childhood opportunities to develop their language and communication skills, creativity and problem-solving abilities and metacognitive strategies for understanding what is read, heard and experienced. It is the Launch Pad Library’s vision to launch kids for life success and the Rotary Club of Newnan is proud to be a part in those children’s success. Ruth Hill educators determined that an Outdoor Literacy Exploration Area is a much-needed component to this vision as it provides a space and activities stimulating the senses and various parts of the brain and the body in an outdoor setting.
