For the first time in nearly 20 years, there is “buzz” in
the air about Georgia Tech for the Georgia Rotary Student Program. GRSP has
worked directly with Rotary Clubs and Tech to offer scholarships to
international students, including Atharva Lele, 19 of India and Seraphine
“Sheena” Gunawan, 19 of Indonesia.
Atharva is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Peachtree City.
He enjoys linear algebra this term and explains it as the new way of thinking
about mathematics. He’s connected with people from all across the world and
learning about their culture, history and traditions. Atharva had a chance to
represent Tech this past week at the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers
(SASE) Connect Collegiate Conference in Boston, MA. He was chosen with a group
of four other students to represent Tech for their project.
Sheena is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Henry County and a
computer science major. Her favorite class this term is Automata and
Complexity, which explores the fundamentals of computer problems. She is also
spending time working in a biomedical lab helping with simulations, AI analysis
and multitracking system as well as taking a quantum machine learning research
class. It is easy to imagine why she appreciates how her Rotary Club encourages
her to take breaks, go outside and have fun. She’s intrigued by learning about
the other GRSP scholars’ passions and helping others internationally despite
their busy schedules and the growing individualism in society.
