Our club is fortunate to have a member with a truly diverse and inspiring background: Ray Huebbschmann. Before joining our ranks in 2018 - just before his retirement from Georgia State UniversityPerimeter College in December 2019, Ray dedicated years to serving others in the field of mental health and rehabilitation the Illinois Department of Mental Health. His transition to higher education saw him sharing his knowledge as a psychology professor at Georgia Perimeter College, where he even collaborated with the Carter Centerin 2002, 204 and 206 to host delegations from China, offering insights into American-elections.
Ray’s interest in Rotary, a long-held aspiration he often spoke of, became a reality thanks to a call from Rick Woods after Ray’s move to the Dunwoody campus. Since then, despite his weekly commute from the Piedmont Park area, Ray has been an enthusiastic member, consistently encouraging our club to explore more international projects.
Beyond his professional life and commitment to service, Ray possesses a remarkable passion for swimming and weightlifting. A former college swimmer, he has maintained his dedication to both disciplines, achieving incredible success in he world of Masters Weightlifting. His induction into both the US Masters Weightlifting Hall of Fame and the Pan Am Masters Weightlifting Hall of Fame speaks volumes about his dedication and achievement. Don’t be surprised if a conversation with Ray quickly turns to his enthusiasm for these sports!
Always on the go, Ray frequently travels for competitions, like when he visited Athens, Greece and won the title of Best Lifter, Mediterranean Masters in November 2023.
Let’s all wish Ray the best of luck and take inspiration from his lifelong commitment to service, personal well-being and global engagement!
