Moultrie Gives Face Lift to Local School

The Rotary Club of Moultrie recently completed a beautification project at the main entrance of Cox Elementary School. One of ten elementary schools in Colquitt County, and on the lower income scale compared to the rest, Cox Elementary had a front entrance with a less-than-desirable appearance. Since first impressions are extremely important, the faculty and staff desired a better forward-facing image to parents, visitors and students entering the school… So Moultrie Rotary stepped in to help - with help from a District 6900 grant.

The area was covered in aged pine straw, choked out with weeds, and crowded with overgrown shrubs and stained concrete. Rotarians went to work pulling weeds and edging around the beds, trimming shrubs and removing dead plants. New flowers were planted and fresh pine straw was layered into the beds on each side of the main entrance. Concrete steps were place to give students a safe and clear path to the flag pole each morning. And the final touch was a brand new bench in front with a Rotary sign proudly displayed.

The school staff is loving the new look and the cleaning crew is even helping to keep it watered each day. The school’s horticulture club will help the Rotarians keep the area looking good by policing the weeds and planting additional flowers. Amazing what a little cleaning up can do to have a positive impact on the morale of everyone entering the school. Thanks to Rotary District 6900 for supporting the project!
