All over the district, clubs are making a difference in their communities. Here's what the Rotary Clubs of Atlanta Metro, Dallas Paulding County, Douglas County, Dunwoody, Griffin Daybreak and North Cobb are doing.
The Rotary Club of Atlanta Metro and the Rotaract Club of Atlanta recently partnered to support the Adult Disability Medical Healthcare. “Thank you for all the work you do for developmentally disabled adults in our community! We were more than happy to help pack gift bags for the ADMH run participants.”
Some Dallas Paulding County Rotarians - including Ivy Capps and Madge Lovingood - were part of the club’s virtual Dictionary Distribution for Paulding Co third graders.
The Rotary Club of Douglas County is having a Thanksgiving Food Drive - hoping to donate 20 boxes to families in its community.
Dunwoody Rotarians had an opportunity to get creative - designing and painting the picnic table shown here (with President Ardy Bastien) that will be located outside near the CheeseCake Factory at Perimeter Mall - joining others to provide outside dining possibilities. It's just one more example of how the Rotary Club of Dunwoody is finding projects where social distancing can happen, but the volunteers can do something fun and benefit the community at large.
At Griffin Daybreak Rotary, Club President Janet Wilkerson presented Chick-fil-A gift cards to the city works director for distribution to the Solid Waste Department and Street Department employees as a thank you for the services they perform each day. DG Kirk participated in the presentation.
The Rotary Club of North Cobb is lending its Facebook presence to Susan Norris, Founder and Executive Director of Rescuing Hope, Inc., as they fight human trafficking. Susan has asked for everyone's help to "Blanket Cobb County" with their message. The website asks: Do you know someone they could talk to about educating our community? Rescuing Hope is looking for partners in schools, medical professionals, law enforcement, houses of worship, service clubs, and businesses. Email crystal@rescuinghope.com to get started.
Buckhead Rotary Immediate Past President Greg Davis and President Mark Johnson present a Rotary District 6900 Grant to Horizons at Atlanta International School (AIS) Co-Directors Kelsey Bunker and Chris Rhue, and AIS Head of School Kevin Glass. Horizons Atlanta at Atlanta International School is a six-week summer enrichment program for low-income students that helps prevent the “summer learning gap”– the well-documented loss of learning that occurs during the summer. Horizons’ efforts are aimed at eliminating the achievement gap for low-income students in Metro Atlanta.
As part of Carroll County’s renovation of the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), the Rotary Club of Carrollton paid for and installed a great new playground!
