Roswell Rotary and Roswell High School raised over $7,000 during the inaugural “Roswell High School and Roswell Rotary Honor Air Invitational” basketball tournament in November at the school's J. Tom Zachary Court in the “Hornet’s Nest”. All proceeds from ticket sales were donated towards funding next year’s Honor Air flight, the tenth in the club's history.
According to Roswell Rotary Past President Gene Beckman, “We were pleased to work with Roswell High School in the first invitational and honored that they chose Honor Air as the beneficiary of the proceeds. Honor Air flights are 100%funded through local donations.” Throughout the years, Roswell Rotary has seen what the trips mean to the veterans. According to Beckman, “it is amazing to watch the bonds and relationships formed between the veterans who have been on this trip.” Roswell Rotarians recognize the response from the veterans and their family members and that is what keeps the volunteers coming back each year to be involved.
Fifteen boys and girls teams throughout the Southeast participated in the invitational. Schools from the North Fulton area were represented as well as from Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina. Several hundred students, coaches and players traveled to enjoy the tournament. At an average ticket cost of $8.00 over 800 fans attended.
Roswell Rotary would like to thank the coaches, players, Rotarians and Interact Students for volunteering their time during the Thanksgiving week to ensure the tournament's success.
