Roswell Rotary and Argentina had the opportunity to experience each other’s educational system and culture with the Roswell Rotary Club Teacher Exchange program. Lucia Lopez selected by the Rotary Club of Pilar Argentina spent time in Roswell May 5-12, visiting schools and members of the local community.Lopez teaches middle school and will bring back her experiences to the students and fellow faculty. In exchange, Roswell Rotary has selected a local middle school social studies teacher to visit in Pilar June 16-30.
It’s a huge reward for deserving teachers in both countries. Both clubs interview a pool of candidates who are invited to attend the Rotary Club meetings. All travel and accommodations are handled by the host club and its families.
The Rotary relationship with Argentina dates to 1974 when Roswell Rotarian Lee Hollingsworth’s father as President of the West Jacksonville Florida Rotary Club started a student exchange with the Rotary Club of Bahia Blanca Argentina. Today Roswell Rotary partners with the Rotary Club of Pilar to exchange teachers in the other city during the inverted summer breaks.
An informed, smiling, educated, self-less and hard-working teacher has proven to be one of our best ambassadors. Forty-four years after the program began, the relationship between teachers and the club is stronger than ever.
